Wild Elephants in Africa

Wild Elephants are increasingly found only in African Safari Parks and controlled Game Reserves.

Even in the Game Reserves the Elephants are often culled in order to protect the vegetation.

Which only goes to show that we are the lucky ones, we could well be the last generation to be able to actually see Elephants in the wild. Of course their lives are well recorded and Natural History Documentaries featuring the wonderful African Elephant are plentiful...

... it's not quite like the real thing though is it? To see a herd of Elephants, close by, while standing in the hot African sun is an unforgettable experience.

Speaking of which, due to the heat from that African sun, Wild Elephants need to drink around 50 gallons - 190 litres - of water a day. Which is why if you hang out at enough watering holes - the elephant kind, not the human sundowner kind - then you are sure to see elephants.
